I’m a 37 year-old fun, hip, Rabbi who loves to bring people closer to God! I am married to my high school sweetheart (whom I met at shul when I was nine!) and together we are being brought up by our three crazy kids. I work in the same city in which I was reared but sometimes fantasize about moving in order to be closer to my sibs.

Any chance you are the same Frume Sarah with whom I went to AMHSI in 1987? Ye of “Dirty Dancing” fame? If so, please email me back! I came across your blog totally randomly and would love to say hi.

(Of course, if you’re a different Frume Sarah, then hello to you, happy Monday, and congratulations on your newest addition.)

  2. Frume Sarah Says:

One and the same!! How are you??

  3. Jami V Says:

Great! Send me an email with your email address and I’ll write you properly.

I stumbled onto your blog after searching for info about raising Jewish kids in a secular/Christian world.

    I love your blog.

My husband is a reform rabbi, who is also at the URJ Biennial right now.

And I wonder if you were classmates, as you seem familiar from your blog.

Ah, well. Thanks for blogging . . . you’re setting a good example as a Jewish parent!

    Hi,

we are organizing the ING europe-marathon in Luxembourg, Europe, and this year, 3. Mai 2008, we want to put up a religious relay. I saw your article about the running rabbi and thought, that you might be interested to run in the relay. The distance would be 8-10 kilometres. The flight would go on us.
The other runners are of all kinds of religions like Catholism, Islam…
If you are interested don’t hesitate to contact us!

    Best Regards
    Kerstin

  6. Frume Sarah Says:

Thanks Kertsin. Sadly, my running days are behind me due to (shockingly) a lack of time. Otherwise it sounds amazing ;)

  7. Kerstin Says:

I am sorry to hear that.
If you know anyone else who would be interested to run in the relay, just let me know.
Otherwise I wish a all the best for the future.

    Kerstin

  10. Frume Sarah,

On the chance that you may be interested in a little blog that intentionally seeks the most diverse people of faith it can find yet definitely is from the Christian side : full information-no solicitation, and all in the name of the unity of humankind.

“changing the world, one Jew at a time” sounds like you might just be the one we’re missing-the one that will help us see the Jewish faith through your eyes and words.

That your time. I plan to be at this a while, and whether you drop by the blog, I will try to visit yours again to see what the life of a reformed rabbi looks like.

    Shalom

    Frume Sarah,

This is a great site! I recently started a site of my own to help the Jewish community. (www.yeahthatskosher.com)
Maybe you’d have some interest in writing about it or doing an interview for your blog.

    Let me know.

  16. Dawn Says:

    Hello Frume Sarah,

This might be a strange request but I was wondering if I could perhaps ask you a few basic questions about the Jewish funeral. I will be going to one (soon, unfortunately). I am not Jewish, but I want to respect the family and do not want to do or wear or say anything that might offend anybody. If you wouldn’t mind, please email me. Thanks very much! -Dawn

Hello! i am an 18-year-old Christian looking to convert to Judaism. What can you advise me- im interested in your thoughts!

  18. Shalom, Rabbi OomLaut;
We missed you Friday evening. Sorry you were feeling ill.
    Get well soon, please.

  19. Westley Says:

Hello, my name is Westley, I am not Jewish, and this will be a strange post. I just woke up from a dream, a very vivid one.

In this dream, I met a woman, that looked to be about my age or younger (I am 28). This woman is quite literally the woman of my dreams.

In my dream, I asked her for her name, and she said something that sounded like “froom”, and then disappeared.

I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve never heard this word before, and sometimes dreams can be more than dreams, so I searched on Google for anything spelled like “froom”, “frum”, “frume” or anything like it. And it brought me here.

Could you or anyone else here tell me what this means? Was this just some random working of my subconscious, or does it mean something else?

What are the odds that I would hear in my dream a Yiddish word that means something like “holy or devout”, when I’ve never heard this word before in my life?

Please tell me I’m not crazy.

  20. Lauren Says:

    Rebecca,

It’s Lauren from HUC, your classmate from HUC. After reading your FB updates about being sick, I took the law into my own hands to find out what has been going on with your health. Found the blog, blah, blah, blah. I like the blog. Please continue to rest. I’m thinking of you.

Refuah Sheleimah (notice the sheleimah part, please.)

    Love,
    Lauren

  21. Helen Says:

    Hello Frume Sarah,

I noticed your “available 24/6 message” and was hoping you could talk a little bit about what being Shabbos-observant in a reform way means to you. I have been doing a lot of thinking on the topic lately and would appreciate your insight. Please feel free to email me. Thank you for your help.

    Helen

  22. Hi Frume Sarah, I’m writing to let you know about a service award we are offering for mitzvah (pre)teens. We have really been inspired by the service projects our young customers have been doing, and will be giving the award honoree free invitations and thank you notes for her or his bat/bar mitzvah. Details are posted at: http://www.twistedlimbpaper.com/tikkunolamaward.htm. Is this something you would be interested in blogging about? Thanks for your consideration, Sheryl

  24. Meshuga Mike Says:

Hi, Frume Sarah … found your blog in very random fashion–linked out of Wikipedia somehow–and really enjoying the posts here.

In return, I thought I would share a couple of links with you and your readers. Great Jewish music from a NY radio program at http://jmintheam.org/ (and lots of Jewish world info from the show’s host at http://www.nachumsegal.com/). And the blog of a Congregational minister (and friend of Rabbi Jack Bloom’s) while she was studying abroad for a year in Jerusalem, http://fromathinplace.blogspot.com/

Thanks for sharing so much of yourself with your readers. Blessings to you, your family and congregation. Gut shabbes! -Mike
